18 April 2014 - LÉ ROISíN Detains a Spanish Registered Vessel.
The Naval Service Ship LÉ ROISíN has detained a Spanish Registered Fishing Vessel at 4 pm this afternoon for alleged breaches of fishing regulations.
The fishing vessel was detained approximately one hundred nautical miles south west of Mizen Head and is expected into Castletownbere tomorrow morning.
It brings to 250 the number of boardings conducted this year by the Naval Service, with 17 warnings issued and this is the third vessel detained for alleged infringements of fisheries regulations in 2014.
The Naval Service in partnership with the Air Corps Maritime Squadron monitors all fishing activity within the Irish Exclusive Fishery Limit enforcing EU Fisheries Regulations to all countries. The Fishing Vessel is currently under escort by the LÉ ROISíN, en route to Castletownbere, Cork, and will be handed over to the Gardaí on arrival tomorrow morning.
