Saturday 09 February 2013 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Render Viable Improvised Explosive Device Safe.
An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the grounds of Blanchardstown IT, Dublin this morning.
The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team in response to a request from the Gardai after the IED was found on the IT campus, near an ATM machine. The Team arrived on scene at 10.40 am and a cordon was put in place for public safety. Some nearby buildings also had to be evacuated as a precaution.
The device was rendered safe in situ remotely without the need for a controlled explosion and was then moved to a secure military location for further technical examination and testing. The scene was declared safe at 11.35 am.
The device has now been confirmed as a viable IED following further testing and it's remains will be handed over to the Gardai to assist in their investigations.
