60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Wednesday 05 December 2012 - Naval Service Detain Fishing Vessel.

The Naval Service vessel L.É. AOIFE has detained a Spanish registered fishing vessel approximately 20 nautical miles West of Mizen Head earlier today.

The detention was in relation to alleged breaches of fishing regulations.

The vessel is currently under escort by the L.É. AOIFE to Castletownbere and is expected to arrive in later this evening, the vessel will then handed be over to the Gardaí­.

The Naval Service has detained 20 vessels so far in 2012.
