Thursday 3rd April - Sports Awards 2014.

The Defence Forces Sports Awards will take place in McKee Barracks, Dublin on Thursday the 3rd of April to acknowledge the sporting efforts and achievements of Defence Forces personnel at local, national and international level.

Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, Lt Gen Conor O’Boyle will present awards to twenty five recipients.

This marks the third occasion where the Defence Forces will publicly acknowledge the efforts and achievements of our sports men and women. In addition, Olympic gold medal winner, Sgt Michael Carruth (Retd) will be in attendance to receive a “Hall of Fame Award” for his outstanding achievements in Boxing.

Sport and adventure training are central pillars of Defence Forces training and add significant value to the organisation and to the development of the personnel within the Defence Forces. Robust sport and adventure training is complementary to and re-enforces the Defence Forces mandatory fitness testing regime while developing character, leadership and team work. In addition, Sport, Adventure Training and Fitness assists with the development of Unit and organisational identity, morale and Esprit de Corps.

The recipients range from competitors, coaches, administrators and managers across a broad range of disciplines.
