60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Saturday 01 August 2015 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Deal with Hoax Device.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team dealt with a crudely constructed hoax in Ballincollig, Co Cork this evening.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team on request from An Garda Síochána, following the discovery of a suspect device at a hotel. The hotel was evacuated and a cordon put in place for public safety.

The team arrived on scene at 10.00 pm. The device was examined by the team and declared as a crudely constructed hoax. Items of an evidential nature were handed over to the Gardaí. The scene was declared safe at 10.55 pm.

Other types of call outs would include conventional munition destruction such as old grenades discovered by members of the public, unstable chemicals and also suspect devices found to be hoaxes.
