Friday 29th May 2015 - Minister for Defence Mr. Simon Coveney T.D to Unveil Monument on Inis Oí­rr.

The Minister for Defence Mr Simon Coveney T.D and the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces Lieutenant General Conor O'Boyle will attend a commemorative ceremony in honour of Private Caomhán Seoige on Inis Oí­rr, Co. Galway on Friday 29 May 2015 at 1 p.m.

The ceremony will be dedicated to the memory of Private Seoige who has been Missing In Action (M.I.A) since an incident in Dynater, South Lebanon on the 27th of April 1981, where he was deployed with the 48th Infantry Battalion, under the aegis of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL.)

Minister Coveney and Lieutenant General O'Boyle will join members of Caomhán's family, Caomhán's Home Unit An Chéad Chathlán Coisithe (1st Infantry Battalion, Galway) and his colleagues from the 48th Infantry Battalion for the formal dedication and laying of wreaths at the monument. The monument, made from Inis Oí­rr limestone was commissioned by the Defence Forces with the kind permission of the Seoige family. It is designed and crafted by sculptor Alexandra Morosco with assistance from stone carver Tom Little.
