Friday 19 October 2012 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Makes Safe Viable Improvised Explosive Device.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Blanchardstown this morning.

The Defence Forces deployed to Fortlawn Avenue in Blanchardstown following a request from the Gardai; the area had been cordoned off by the Gardai and local residents were evacuated to a safe location.

The team arrived on scene at 9.25 am and examined the device which was located outside a private residence.

The viable device was made safe in situ without the need for a controlled explosion and then removed to a secure military location for further examination.

The remains of the device have been handed over to the Gardai to assist with their investigations.

The scene was declared safe at 10.10 am.

This is the 163rd callout and 76th viable IED dealt with by the Army Bomb Disposal Teams so far this year.
