Friday 12 Oct 2012 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Makes Safe Unstable Chemical.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a quantity of the chemical Dinitrophenylhydrazine which had become unstable this evening in Cavan Town.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team to Loreto College, Cavan Town following a request from the Gardai.
The Team arrived on scene at 5.00 pm and made safe the unstable chemical which was found in a school laboratory during a routine audit.

The chemical was removed to a safe location where it was made safe through the use of a controlled explosion.The scene was declared safe at 6.00 pm and the Team returned to base.

Dinitrophenylhydrazine is a chemical re-agent routinely used in laboratories around the country that can become unstable over time.

A Defence Force EOD Team completed a similar tasking yesterday morning with an unstable chemical in a school in Carrigaline, Cork
