Friday 05 October 2012 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Makes Safe Viable Improvised Explosive Device .

An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Rathangan, Co Kildare over night.

The Defence Forces deployed to a residential area in Rathangan following a request from the Gardai; the area had been cordoned off by the Gardai and local residents were evacuated to a safe location.

The team arrived on scene at 11.30 pm and examined the device which was located outside a private residence.

The viable device was made safe by means of a controlled explosion.

The remains of the device were handed over to the Gardai to assist with their investigations. 

The scene was declared safe at 1.45 am.
