60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Army Bomb Disposal Team makes safe two grenades.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team deployed to Grange, County Sligo this afternoon to deal with two early 20th Century Mills type 36 grenades. The grenades were found during excavation at a private residence.

The Team arrived on scene at 2.15pm, removed the grenades to a safe location and made them safe through a controlled explosion.

The scene was declared safe at 3.15pm and the Team has now returned to base.
