Army Bomb Disposal Team makes safe grenade.

n Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a live WWI era grenade found on a farm in Emo, Co. Laois this afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed the team in response to a request from Gardai; the grenade had been found during excavation work on a local farm.

The Team arrived on scene at 1.40pm, examined the grenade and made it safe in location through the use of a controlled explosion.

The scene was declared safe at 2.05pm and the team have returned to base.

This is the 24th call out of an Army Bomb Disposal Team this year who have dealt with10 viable IEDs along with conventional munition destruction such as old artillery shells discovered by members of the public, unstable chemicals and also suspect devices found to be hoaxes.
