60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

31 Mar 2014 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Rendered Safe A Viable Improvised Explosive Device.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Gurranabraher, Cork this evening.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team in response to a request from An Garda Sí­ochána after a suspect device was found outside a private residence in the Churchfield area of Cork by a member of the public.

The team arrived on scene at 6.20pm. The device was made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion and was brought to a secure military location for further examination. All component parts and items of an evidential nature will be handed over to the Gardaí­ to assist them with their investigation into the incident.

The scene was declared safe at 7.20 pm.
