Brigadier General Paul Fry

GOC AC - Brigadier General Paul Fry

Brigadier General Fry, former Chief of Air Staff (Operations) in the Air Corps, is GOC of the Air Corps. Brigadier General Fry took up the appointment, on the 26th of July 2010. Born in Dublin in 1956 Brigadier General Fry was educated in Sutton Park School, Howth, Co. Dublin.

He lives in Firhouse, Co. Dublin is married with three children, one of whom is also a pilot in the Air Corps.

Military Experience

He was awarded his “Wings” and commissioned as a Pilot Officer in 1976. He has flown the full range of Air Corps operations including Search & Rescue, Air Ambulance, and Ministerial Air Transport & Maritime Patrol. He is an experienced pilot and a qualified flight instructor with over 5,000 flying hours.

Brigadier General Fry graduated from the Command and Staff School of the Military College in 1994 and he completed a Strategic Leadership Course through the National University of Ireland, Maynooth in 2009/10.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. He has served in a wide variety of Command and Staff appointments during his career.

Overseas Experience

He has served with the UN in the Western Sahara. (MINURSO)

The Badge Design

The Badge design (common to all Corps and Services and all orders of dress) is derived from the badge of the Irish Volunteers and was designed by Professor Eoin MacNeill, Chairman of the National Executive of the Irish Volunteers. This badge was originally adopted by the Irish Volunteers in October 1914. [Read more]
