Saturday, 31st March 2018 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Conduct Controlled Detonations.

Yesterday, following requests from An Garda Síochána, an Army Bomb Disposal Team conducted controlled detonations in 2 locations.

The first request was in relation to an allotment of old blasting powder found in Kampile, New Ross.  The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 03.10pm and to ensure public safety a cordon was put in place for the duration of the operation. A controlled detonation was then conducted at 04.10pm to dispose of the powder. The scene was declared safe at 04.50pm.

The second request was in relation to a Civil War Era Mills Grenade which was found in Mallow. The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 09.20pm and to ensure public safety a number of houses were evacuated and a cordon was put in place for the duration of the operation. A controlled detonation was then conducted at 10.39pm to dispose of the munition.

The scene was declared safe at 10.55pm. 

The Defense Forces Bomb Disposal Teams deal with other types of callouts that would include the destruction of a traditional munitions, such as old grenades found by members of the public, unstable chemicals and suspected devices that are found to be hoaxes.
