Naval Service Fleet
The Naval Service keeps the tradition of naming its vessels after famous women from Irish and Celtic mythology.
Currently the Naval Service operates eight ships:
Offhore Patrol Vessels
LE Emer, LE Aoife and LE Aisling were designed by the Naval Service in the 1970s and are still in service with the Naval Service today:
LE Niamh and LE Roisin were built in Appledore shipyards in the United Kingdom. They were built to a design that optimizes their patrol performance in Irish waters (which are among the roughest in the world), all year round.
Helicopter Patrol Vessel
The LE Eithne is the Flag Ship of the Naval Service.
Coastal Patrol Vessels
In 1988 two Peacock Class ships were purchased from the Royal Navy.
Previously they patroled the waters off Hong Kong.
