60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Specialist Units

Naval Service Diving Section

The Naval Service Diving Section (NSDS) has been in existence since the late 1960s. From humble beginnings as an internal diving team for the ships in the fleet, it has evolved into the primary State diving team, carrying out many varied tasks for a number of State Agencies

Fisheries Monitoring Centre

The Fisheries Monitoring Centre (FMC) at Naval Base Haulbowline, is the designated National centre with responsibility for satellite monitoring of all fishing activity in Irish  Exclusive Fisheries Limits (EFL).
