Wednesday the 02nd May 2018 - Review of Troops.

The Minister with Responsibility for Defence Mr. Paul Kehoe T.D., accompanied by Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces Vice Admiral Mark Mellett DSM, will review the men and women of the 112th Infantry Battalion in Aiken Barracks, Dundalk, tomorrow, Wednesday 02nd May 2018 at 11am.

The review of the 112th Infantry Battalion is ahead of their six month deployment to South Lebanon as part of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The deployment of the 112th Infantry Battalion will see 344 Irish troops rotate to South Lebanon next month in what is Ireland’s largest current overseas deployment. Once deployed, the 112th Infantry Battalion will assume command of the multinational IRISHFINNBATT, which includes a company of soldiers from Finland and an Estonian platoon.

The personnel travelling with the 112th Infantry Battalion represent 29 counties across Ireland with the main contributing unit being the 27th Infantry Battalion which is based in Aiken Barracks, Dundalk (86 personnel).

The next three largest units are the 7th Infantry Battalion, Rathmines (38), 2 Brigade Artillery Regiment, Custume Barracks, Athlone (29) and the 6th Infantry Battalion, Custume Barracks, Athlone (23).

The unit will form up in Aiken Barracks, Dundalk, this will be followed by a parading of the Unit Colours (flag), the Minister's address and a ceremonial 'March Past'.
