60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Wednesday 05 September - Update on Search Operation off the Cork Coast for Missing Diver.

The Naval Service Vessel LÉ Ciara remained on scene throughout the day and assisted in the coordination of surface assets in the search for a missing diver approximately 12 miles off the Coast near Baltimore County Cork.

Despite intensive efforts, the missing diver has not been found an the LÉ Ciara has now stood down from search operations for the night and has anchored nearby. The Naval Service Specialist Dive Team are due to arrive in the area tomorrow morning to join the search and are expected to use a side scan sonar device in an effort to locate the missing man.

The LÉ Ciara will recommence search operations at first light and will act as a maritime platform for the Naval Dive Team's operations tomorrow.
