60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Thursday 17th December 2015 - Return of LÉ SAMUEL BECKETT.

Commodore Hugh Tully, The Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Service, will meet the crew of the LÉ SAMUEL BECKETT on Thursday 17th December when the vessel returns from humanitarian and search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean.

Commanded by Lieutenant Commander Tony Geraghty, the 58 sailors of the LÉ SAMUEL BECKETT, augmented by 2 medics from the Army and the Air Corps, deployed to the Mediterranean on the 24th of September 2015 where they successfully rescued 1088 people over 5 operations in cooperation with the Italian Maritime Rescue Co-Ordination Centre.
