60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Thursday 14 June, 2012 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Makes Safe Viable Improvised Explosive Device.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Clonsilla, Dublin this afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed the team to a residential estate in the Willow Wood area of Clonsilla following a request from the Gardai.

The team arrived on scene at 3.10pm and examined the device which had been placed through the letterbox of a private residence.

The viable IED was made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion; the scene was declared safe at 3.45pm

The device has been removed to a secure military location for further analysis after which it will then be handed over to the Gardai.
