60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Sunday 17th May 2015 - Irish Personnel of 47th Infantry Group Return Home.

The 47th Infantry Group will return to Terminal 1, Dublin Airport on Sunday the 17th of May at 9.30 am, following a six month deployment to South Lebanon serving with the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The 175 personnel will be met by their families and friends. The 47th Infantry Group are drawn primarily from the Army No 1 Brigade encompassing personnel from the Munster and Connacht regions.

Their replacements, the 49th Infantry Group begin their rotation to South Lebanon today as part of the joint Finnish-Irish Battalion.
