60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Monday 21st September 2015 - Naval Service Officer Commissioning Ceremony.

Minister for Defence Mr Simon Coveney T.D accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces Lieutenant General Conor O'Boyle DSM will attend the Commissioning Ceremony of three new Officers at the Naval Base, Haulbowline, Cork on Monday, 21st September 2015.

It is a very important and proud day for the members of the 53rd Naval Service Cadet Class as they are awarded their Presidential Commissions. This represents the successful completion of two years intensive military and nautical training.

The three Cadets completed a very demanding, challenging and rewarding course of basic officer training including diverse subjects such as navigation, seamanship, leadership, communications, marine engineering and naval warfare, while a strategic studies course was completed at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. The three Cadets completed sea time experience across the Naval Service fleet and commenced their first year of academic study for a Bachelor of Science in Nautical Science at the National Maritime College of Ireland.
