Monday 13 July 2015 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Rendered Safe a Hoax Device.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe a Hoax device in the Townsend/Shaw Street area of Dublin city centre today.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team after a suspect device was found on waste ground under a railway bridge. A cordon and road closures were in place and commercial and residential properties were evacuated for public safety.

The team arrived on scene at 3.10 pm. The device was disrupted by controlled explosion and made safe at the scene. On examination the devise was assessed as being a hoax.

Items of an evidential nature have been handed over to the Gardaí­ to assist them with their investigation. The scene was declared safe at 4.55 pm.

Other types of call outs would include conventional munition destruction such as old grenades discovered by members of the public, unstable chemicals and also suspect devices found to be hoaxes.
