60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Minister of State for Defence Reviews Troops Bound for Lebanon.

The Minister of State for Defence, Mr Paul Kehoe TD, accompanied by Defence Forces Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Sean McCann, will review the troops of the 105th Battalion in Kilkenny Castle on Tuesday, 08th of November at 3pm.

Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Philip Brennan, the 440 troops of the 105th Battalion have been in training for the past three months, and will depart for a six month tour of duty in Lebanon later this month.

Drawn primarily from the 1st Southern Brigade (Munster area), the 105th Battalion will take over duties from the 104th Battalion, which has been in Lebanon since June.

The ceremonial occasion will consist of a parade and march past in the grounds of Kilkenny castle, which will be attended by the families of the members of the 105th Battalion and members of the public.
