60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Friday 09th May - Ministerial Review of Lebanon Bound 45th Infantry Group.

Minister of State for the Department of Defence and Government Chief Whip, Paul Kehoe T.D, accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Conor O'Boyle, will review the troops of the 45th Infantry Group on Friday the 09th of May in the Defence Forces Training Centre, Curragh Camp, Co. Kildare.

Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Campion, originally from Roscommon, the 181 troops of the 45th Infantry Group have been in training for the past number of weeks and will deploy for a six month tour of duty to south Lebanon later this month with the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Drawn primarily from the Defence Forces Training Centre in the Curragh (Midlands), augmented by personnel from the Air Corps and Naval Service, the 45th Infantry Group will replace the 42nd Infantry Group who were deployed in November of last year.

The ceremonial occasion will consist of a parade, Ministerial Inspection and address followed by a march past within the barracks. The parade will be attended by the families of the members of the 45th Infantry Group and invited guests.
