Defence Forces Apprentice wins at the National Skills Competition.

Apprentice Colm Cashman, from Dublin, who is an apprentice heavy vehicle mechanic in the Transport and Vehicle Maintenance School, CSSC, DFTC has won the heavy vehicle mechanic section in the national skills championships 2011.

As part of his apprentice training he attended Dublin Institute of Technology, Bolton Street, Dublin. During his training, DIT decided that he should go forward to the preliminary round of the national skills competition which was held in Athlone earlier this year. On competing in this preliminary competition he was chosen, as one of six, to go forward to the National Finals that were held in the Mansion house from the 4th to 8th of April, 2011.

As part of the competition he had to complete six tasks over three days. When the judging was completed he was awarded first prize in the heavy vehicle mechanic section.

Cpl Denis Smyth was an assistant examiner for one of the 6 tasks during the national championships.
