60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Army Bomb Disposal Team makes safe old commercial explosives outside Bandon.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team has made safe a quantity of old commercial explosives and commercial detonators outside Bandon this afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed the team to a rural house in the townland of Gaggan, outside Bandon off the N71 in response to a request by the Gardai.

A small quantity of old commercial explosives and a number of commercial detonators were removed from an outhouse and taken to a safe location, where they were made safe by means of a controlled explosion.

The team arrived on scene at 1.15pm and the area was declared safe at 15.00hrs.
