Army Bomb Disposal Team carries out controlled explosion in Swords.

An Army Bomb Disposal team carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious device in Swords this afternoon.

The Defence Forces deployed the team to the scene outside Swords Garda Station in response to a request by the Gardai.

The team arrived on scene at 3.30pm and carried out a controlled explosion on the device which was located underneath a vehicle.

Further examination of the device found it to have no explosive content, and the scene was declared safe at 5pm.

The call out is being classified as a false alarm. This is the third call out for Army Bomb Disposal Teams in the past 24 hours, and the 72nd so far this year.
