60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

2nd November 2015- Ministerial Review of Lebanon Bound 51st Infantry Group.

Minister of State for Defence Mr Paul Kehoe T.D. accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces Vice Admiral Mark Mellett, DSM, will review the personnel of the 51st Infantry Group on Monday the 2nd of November in Cathal Brugha Barracks, Rathmines, Dublin.
Commanded by Sligo native Lieutenant Colonel Brendan McGuinness, the 190 troops of the 51st Infantry Group have been in training for the past number of weeks and are scheduled to deploy to Lebanon in mid-November with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Drawn primarily from Dublin, Westmeath, Meath and Kildare but with 25 counties represented in total, the 51st Infantry Group will replace the 49th Infantry Group which deployed last March and which has been contributing to a safe and secure environment in its Area of Operations along the Blue Line between Lebanon and Israel.

The ceremonial occasion will consist of a parade, Ministerial Inspection and address followed by a march past within the barracks. The parade will be attended by the families of 51st Infantry Group personnel and invited guests.
