60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

26th March 2015 - Ministerial Review of Golan Heights Bound 48th Infantry Group.

Minister of State at the Departments of An Taoiseach and Defence Mr Paul Kehoe T.D accompanied by the Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations) of the Defence Forces Major General Ralph James, will review the personnel of the 48th Infantry Group on Thursday the 26th of March in Finner Camp, Ballyshannon, Co Donegal.

Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Mark Prendergast, formerly Officer Commanding 28th Infantry Battalion, Donegal, the 130 troops of the 48th Infantry Group have been in training for the past number of weeks and are scheduled to deploy to the Golan Heights mission area in April with the United Nations Disengagement Observation Force (UNDOF).

Drawn primarily from Ulster and Connacht, the 48th Infantry Group will replace the 46th Infantry Group who deployed last September.

The ceremonial occasion will consist of a parade, Ministerial Inspection and address followed by a march past within the barracks. The parade will be attended by the families of 48th Infantry Group personnel and invited guests.
