23rd March 2014 - Air Corps Conduct SAR Top Cover off the Coast of Mayo.

The Air Corps provided Search and Rescue (SAR) top cover for the medical evacuation of an injured fisherman from the fishing vessel this afternoon.

The Air Corps CASA departed Baldonnel at 10.30am on a routine maritime patrol and responded to a request from the Coast Guard to provide assistance for the winching operation 140nm off the West Coast of Mayo.

'Charlie 252' arrived on scene at 11.50am and remained with the fishing vessel providing a communications relay between the fishing vessel, the Coast guard and ‘Rescue 118’ during the SAR mission.

The crew of the maritime aircraft remained with 'Rescue 118' as it routed for Sligo General Hospital and once the helicopter was safely ashore returned to its maritime patrol.

The CASA returned to Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, landing at 4.30pm.
