60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

21 December 2015 - Christmas Messages from Irish Defence Forces.

There are currently 424 Military Personnel serving in fifteen different countries across the globe.

Our biggest troop missions are the 198 personnel serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the 139 personnel with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) on the Golan Heights in Syria.

Irish Troops will also sit down to Christmas Dinner in countries as far flung as Mali, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Ivory Coast and Democratic Republic of the Congo amongst others.
