18 March 2016 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Made Safe Viable Improvised Explosive Device.

This morning the Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Mayfield, Cork.

Gardaí Síochána requested assistance after a suspect device was found in the residential Shannon Lawn area of Mayfield. The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 05.12 am. The device was assessed to be viable and was removed to a safe military location for deconstruction & further examination.

Items of evidential nature have been handed over to the Gardaí to assist them with their investigation.

Scene was declared safe at 07.10 am.

Other types of call outs would include conventional munition destruction such as old grenades discovered by members of the public, unstable chemicals and also suspect devices found to be hoaxes.
