60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

14 March 2017 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Make Safe Two Viable Devices in Carbury, Co.Kildare.

Earlier this evening, an Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe two viable Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Carbury, Co. Kildare.

The Defence Forces deployed the Army Bomb Disposal Team on request from An Garda Síochána. A cordon was established in the surrounding area and a number of houses were evacuated to ensure public safety.

The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived at 6.30pm, carried out an assessment and proceeded to make safe the two suspect devices. The scene was declared safe at 7.50pm.

Material of an evidential nature has now been handed over to An Garda Síochána.
