60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

12 July 2016 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Safely Dispose of Hazardous Chemicals from Science Laboratory in NUI Galway.

Earlier today, an Army Bomb Disposal Team safely disposed of hazardous chemicals from a science laboratory in NUI Galway.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team on request from An Garda Síochána.

The EOD team arrived on scene at 3.00 pm. The chemicals was examined and deemed to be hazardous. They were removed from the scene and disposed of.

The scene was declared safe at 3.40 pm
