60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

8th September 2016 - Defence Forces Veterans Day.

Óglaigh na hÉireann welcomes former servicemen and women, and their families to McKee Barracks, Blackhorse Ave, Dublin 7 at 2pm on Saturday 10th of September to recognise, honour, and commemorate our veterans.

This is the third such Veteran's Day to take place, an event that will be held annually and will rotate around the various military installations nationwide.

On this day, Saturday the 10th of September, the Defence Forces will especially remember all who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving at home or on overseas service with a ceremonial wreath laying commemoration.

A free shuttle bus will operate to and from Heuston Train Station to McKee Barracks from 1130am.
