Information regarding the Loan or Hire of Military Equipment
In certain circumstances, Defence Forces equipment may be loaned/hired to charitable, cultural, non-profit organisations and commercial companies for specific functions and events.
The loan / hire of Defence Forces equipment is Not Guaranteed; all applications are subject to the requested equipment being available from Defence Forces Stores.
It should be noted that equipment can only be made available subject to the following:
- The event is for a charitable, or non-profit cultural or community purpose.
- The location/site for the event is acceptable.
- The loan would be in the public interest.
- No alcoholic drink is to be served at the event.
If your organisation is not a registered charity or non-profit organisation and you are unable to source the equipment from a commercial source, then your request may be considered, but you may be charged for hire of the equipment.
Requirements of Corporate body
In the case of a corporate body, this undertaking must be given under its corporate seal. The following must be complied with:
- The completed Application Form should be returned to the Formation Logistics Officer at the appropriate barracks for your county (list of barrack locations attached)
- Applications should be submitted at least four (4) weeks in advance of the date of the event.
- Insurance Certificate, endorsed by Insurance Company should be submitted two (2) weeks in advance of event, for processing.
Application form
Requests for the loan/hire of military equipment must be made by completing the standard Application Form and submitting it to the Formation Logistics Officer of the relevant Brigade (see list of Brigades overleaf for the one relevant to your county).

Application Forms must be completed in full.
Application Processing
The Formation Logistics Officer will determine whether the application can or cannot be acceded to and will advise the applicant / organisation accordingly.
If the request can be acceded to, the Formation Logistics Officer will furnish your organisation with an approved copy of your Application Form and a Certificate of Insurance, which must be completed by your Insurance Company. Insurance procedures are completed when the endorsed (signed and stamped) Application Form and Certificate of Insurance have been accepted by the Formation Logistics Officer.
Collection and Return
Arrangements for the collection and return of the equipment will only be made following receipt and approval of the completed Insurance Forms.
The Formation Logistics Officer will only release military equipment after receipt of the completed Application Form.
