Training and Education
- Sexual Ethics & Respectful Relationships Training - this is compulsory for all members and
educates on sexual ethics and ensuring dignity in the workplace for all. - Gender Unconscious Bias Training – This programme is designed to help personnel recognise
their own hidden gender stereotypes and assumptions that operate outside conscious
awareness. - Military Investigation Officers and Unit Commander Grievance Management skills course – This
course was developed to educate officer students on the applicability of current equality and
health and safety legislation to members of the DF and thereafter to prepare the officer
student to fulfil their responsibilities when dealing with complaints submitted through the DF
grievance management system (Admin Instr A7 Chapter 1 and Chapter 2).
-This includes the conduct of an investigation by the military investigation officer (MIO),
appointed to investigate a complaint submitted under Section 114 of the Defence Act 1954
(Admin Instruction A7 Chapter 2) and the decision makers in the grievance management
system (Admin Instr A7 Chapter 1 and Chapter 2) at Unit Commander level.
-The Chief of Staff has directed that only officers who have completed this skills course will be
appointed to investigate grievances. - Psychological Safety Training – Training focused on giving personnel the opportunity to
consider how they can contribute to positive cultural change by fostering psychological safety
within their Unit and for the people under their command.

United Nation’s zero tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA)
- This policy aims to prevent misconduct of personnel serving with the UN and to increase
accountability among UN personnel. The Defence Forces subscribe to and support this policy
and our personnel receive mandatory pre-deployment lectures prior to deployment which
deals specially with this policy.
