Trainee Military Medicine
The Defence Forces are seeking doctors who are enthusiastic, physically fit and enjoy adventure, for appointments as Trainees in Military Medicine. The National Specialist Training Programme in Military Medicine is a five-year programme of training and assessment, conducted by the Faculty of Military Medicine of Ireland and the Irish College of GPs. It includes the completion of the full National Specialist Training Programme in General Practice, with current affiliation to the TCD Scheme, and additional modules in Military Primary Care, occupational medicine, public health, aviation, dive, and prehospital emergency care. These modules are typically delivered at locations within the greater Dublin area. During your Military Medicine Programme, you will have the opportunity for supervised training in Defence Force locations at home and abroad. Those who successfully complete the programme will be eligible for dual accreditation as Specialists in both Military Medicine and General Practice in Ireland, and will deliver high standards of medical care to Defence Forces personnel both at home and abroad.
Key Requirements
Hold the minimum medical qualifications of M.B., B.Ch, B.A.O or equivalent.
Possess full registration with the Medical Council of Ireland (and maintain same throughout service).
Meet the required standards of medical and physical fitness.
Satisfy character, security clearance, and citizenship/work entitlement requirements.
Be under 50 years of age on 31 December 2026.
Fulfil the Irish College of GP requirements for Trainees on the National Specialist Training Program in General Practice.
