LÉ SAMUEL BECKETT Detains Fishing Vessel 200 miles South of Fastnet.

The Naval Service Vessel LÉ SAMUEL BECKETT (P61) has detained a Portuguese registered fishing vessel approximately 200 nautical miles South of Fastnet Rock. The detention was in relation to an alleged breach of fishing regulations.

The vessel is being escorted by the LÉ SAMUEL BECKETT to Castletownbere, where it will be handed over to An Garda­ Sí­ochána.

This is the eighth vessel detained by the Naval Service so far in 2019, and the 2nd detention this week. The Defence Forces conduct at sea fishery inspections in line with the service level agreement with the Sea Fishery Protection Authority, as part of its delivery of government services to the state.
