LÉ Samuel Beckett Detains Fishing Vessel

8.00pm - LÉ Samuel Beckett Detains Fishing Vessel off Mizen Head

The Naval Service Vessel LÉ Samuel Beckett has detained an Irish registered fishing vessel approximately 170 nautical miles west of Mizen Head. The detention was in relation to an alleged breach of fishing regulations.

The vessel is currently being escorted by the LÉ Samuel Beckett to Dingle, Co. Kerry, where it is expected to arrive alongside tomorrow morning. On arrival it will be handed over to An Garda­ Sí­ochána.

This is the fifth vessel detained by the Naval Service so far in 2018. The Defence Forces conducts at sea fishery inspections in line with the Department of Defence’s service level agreement with the Sea Fishery Protection Authority, as part of its delivery of government services to the state.
