Sunday, 11th March 2017 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Make Safe And Remove A Civil War Era.

Yesterday evening, following a request from An Garda Síochána, an Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe and removed an old Civil War Era munition. The munition was discovered in the vicinity of Ballymore Eustace, Co Kildare.

The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 6.20pm. To ensure public safety, a number of houses were evacuated and a cordon was put in place for the duration of the operation. The scene was declared safe at 7.40pm.

Should members of the public encounter such munitions they are advised to maintain a safe distance and inform An Garda Síochána.

The Defense Forces Bomb Disposal Teams deal with other types of callouts that would include the destruction of a traditional munitions, such as old grenades found by members of the public, unstable chemicals and suspected devices that are found to be hoaxes.
