Saturday 11 Aug 2012 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Makes Safe Viable Improvised Explosive .
An Army Bomb Disposal Team have made safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Rathkeale, Limerick this afternoon.
The Defence Forces deployed to The Five Crosses Road, Rathkeale in Limerick following a request from the Gardai; the area had been cordoned by the Gardai and local residents were evacuated to a safe location.
The team arrived on scene at 12.10pm and examined the device which was in a roadside ditch. The device was made safe in situ through a controlled explosion and the remains of the device have been handed over to Gardai to assist in their investigations.
The scene was declared safe at 3.00pm
