Army Bomb Disposal Teams have responded to two call outs involving Picric Acid
Army Bomb Disposal Teams have responded to two call outs involving Picric Acid today. The first team deployed to the Regional Veterinary Laboratory in Kilkenny in response to a request by the GardaĆ.
The team arrived on scene at 11.55am and removed a quantity of picric acid to a safe location, where it was destroyed by controlled explosion. The area was declared safe at 12.30pm.
The second team deployed to Colaiste Lorcain, Castledermot, Co. Kildare in response to a request by the GardaĆ. The team arrived at the scene at 12.20pm and removed a quantity of picric acid to a safe location where it was made safe by way of controlled explosion.
The scene was declared safe at 3pm.
Picric acid is a potentially dangerous substance which can develop explosive properties when crystallised. Army Bomb Disposal Teams are trained to deal such chemical compounds in addition to weapons, explosives and munitions.
