20 January 2013 - Army Bomb Disposal Team Render Safe Viable Improvised Explosive Device.
An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe a viable improvised explosive device (IED) in Tallaght, Dublin this afternoon.
The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team in response to a request from the Gardai after the IED was found outside a private residence this afternoon. The Team arrived on scene at 2.55 pm and the property and adjoining houses were evacuated by the Gardai with local residents moved to a safe location during the operation. A cordon was also put in place for public safety.
The device was rendered safe in situ by means of a controlled explosion and was then moved to a secure military location for further technical examination and testing. The scene was declared safe at 3.50 pm.
The device has now been confirmed as a viable IED and the component parts will be handed over to the Gardai to assist in their investigations.
