L.É. Roisín P51

Tógadh an L.É. RÓIS͍N (an chéad ceann den aicme RóisÍn) don tSeirbhís Chabhlaigh in Appledore Shipyard  sa Bhreatain. Bhí innealtóirí na Seirbhíse Cabhlaigh páirteach i ngach céim dá tógáil. Tógadh í ar mhúnla a bhainfeadh an leas is fearr as a cumas ar uiscí na hÉireann (atá ar na cinn is gairbhe sa domhan) ar feadh na bliana go léir. Dá bharr sin, roghnaíodh níos mó faid a bheith inti (78.8m), rud a chuireann cuma fada caol uirthi agus a cheadaíonn feabhas a chur ar na coinníollacha ar bord dá criú. Ar na saoráidí atá ar bord tá breis cóiríochta príobháidí, ionad aclaíochta agus ionaid athraithe/stórála d’fhoirne ag dul ar bord.

Ainm na Loinge

Cé go n-úsáidtear Róisín nó Róisín Dubh go hiondúil anois mar fháthchiall d’Éirinn, meastar go raibh sí ar dhuine d’iníonacha Aoidh Rua Uí Néill, Iarla Thír Eoghain i ndeireadh an 16ú céad. Ní raibh aon rud neamhghnách faoi na póstaí ríshliochta sin agus faoi Dhlí na hÉireann is gnó tuata go hiomlán a bhí sa phósadh, gan aon bhaint ag an eaglais leis.
Tá an dán Róisín Dubh ar cheann de na dánta sin a chuala gach duine, geall leis, ach is minic gur beag a léann é. Is ionann agus cinnte gur dán grá é do bhean éigin agus nach teibíocht faoin mbean idéalach nó fáthchiall den tír atá i gceist ann. Ní raibh aon rud neamhghnách faoi dhánta den chineál sin san 18ú agus sa 19ú aois, ach tá an cur síos atá in ‘Róisín Dubh’ an-difriúil uathu sin. Bíonn na dánta eile ag tabhairt moladh go hiondúil d’áilleacht agus do chrógacht na mná a bhíonn á moladh, ach ní léirítear riamh iontu an dúil chollaíochta atá le fáil sa dán seo.
