Mandatory Retirement Age for Defence Forces Personnel
The Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Seán Clancy, has welcomed the Tánaiste and Minister for Defence, Mr Mícheál Martin’s announcement that mandatory retirement ages for all officers and enlisted personnel serving in the Defence Forces will be increased to 60 years of age
12th Inf Bn Limerick Open Evening
12th Inf Bn will hold an Open Information Evening in Sarsfield Barracks on Weds 28th Feb 2024 from 6pm to 9pm. There will be opportunities to meet serving soldiers, and experience the enlistment process including a demo of the fitness test. No registration required. Follow DF social media for updates.

DF Commemorates the 1st Anniversary of the Tragic Loss of Pte Seán Rooney
Media Release – 1735hrs, Thursday 14 December 2023.
Today the Defence Forces remembers the passing of Pte Seán Rooney who was tragically killed in Al-Aqbieh one year ago while serving with the 121st Infantry Battalion in UNIFIL. Members of the 123rd Infantry Battalion UNIFIL began their commemorations this morning with a silent dawn parade. This was followed by a ceremony at the Tibnine memorial and wreath laying ceremony in Camp Shamrock (UNP 2-45).

Ministerial Review of 123 Inf Bn UNIFIL prior to deployment to Lebanon
An Tánaiste and Minister for Defence, Mr Micheál Martin T.D., accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Irish Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Seán Clancy, reviewed the men and women of the 123rd Infantry Battalion prior to their departure for a six-month deployment to Lebanon as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Pre-Deployment Mission Readiness Exercise, 123rd Infantry Battalion, UNIFIL (Lebanon)
Three hundred and forty-three (343) personnel, comprising of three hundred and thirty-four (334) Irish Defence Forces soldiers and nine (9) Armed Forces of Malta soldiers who together make up the 123rd Infantry Battalion, are entering the final phase of training in preparation for their forthcoming deployment to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, (UNIFIL) based in South Lebanon.
