60 Years Peacekeeping1958 - 2018

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Ireland's first Peacekeeping deployment in 1958.

Since then, Ireland have maintained the longest unbroken service on the front line of peace with over 70,000 individual tours of duty completed by the men and women of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

This year, we remember the 87 members of the Defence Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Peace.

Wednesday 7th October 2015 - Irish Troops Return Home After Completing Six Month Deployment.

103 Irish troops from the 48th Infantry Group, United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) will return to Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, Co Dublin tomorrow, 7th of October at 4 pm following a six month deployment to the Golan Heights.

The troops will arrive to Baldonnell to be met by families and friends. Their replacements, the 50th Infantry Group, completed their rotation to the Golan Heights this morning and will immediately commence duties as the Quick Reaction Force for the UNDOF mission.

The returning 48th Infantry Group is drawn primarily from the Army 2 Brigade, with personnel drawn mainly from the North West, Dublin and Midlands.
