Wednesday 2 May 2012 - Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence Reviews Troops.

The Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence, Mr Alan Shatter TD, accompanied by Defence Forces Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Sean McCann, will review the troops of the 106th Battalion in Mc Kee Barracks, Dublin on Wednesday, 2nd of May at 2pm. The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Andrew Montague, will also be in attendance.

Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Brian Monahan, the 332 troops of the 106th Battalion have been in training for the past three months, and will depart for a six month tour of duty in Lebanon later this month. These Irish Troops will be joined by 171 Finnish soldiers to form the IRISHFINN Battalion on deployment to Lebanon. 

Drawn primarily from the 2nd Eastern Brigade (Leinster & Dublin City area), the 106th Battalion will take over duties from the 105th Battalion, which has been in Lebanon since November last year. 

The ceremonial occasion will consist of a parade and march past within the barracks, which will be attended by the families of the members of the 106th Battalion and members of the public.
