Wednesday 19 September 2012 - Naval Service Detain Fishing Vessel.

The Naval Service Vessel L.É. AISLING has detained an Irish registered fishing vessel approximately 100 nautical miles West of the Blasket Islands, Co Kerry at 3pm this afternoon.

The detention was in relation to alleged breaches of fishing regulations and recording of catch.

The vessel is currently under escort by the L.É. AISLING to Castletownbere and is expected to arrive there tomorrow morning and will then be handed over to the Gardaí­.

The Naval Service have carried out 1080 boardings, issued 39 warnings and detained 17 vessels so far in 2012. Protection of Ireland’s fishery and maritime resources is one of the front line services provided by the Naval Service to the State.
